Collective Extraordinariness!

Appalachian State University Academy at Middle Fork
Wednesday, January 24, 2018

The new branding for the UNC System launched this week includes a tagline: Individually Remarkable, Collectively Extraordinary.

For so many of us who work in the UNC System, this is much more than a tagline. Take, for example, the Appalachian State University Academy at Middle Fork, which will open for the 2018-19 school year in August. The Academy will be a living laboratory of educational research, collaboration, outreach and impact that will be life-changing for more than 300 K-8 students who will be reminded daily that a college education can become their reality.

Both the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools superintendent and the Academy principal are Appalachian graduates, advancing work that is critical for our state: teachers teaching teachers; children and the community in partnership with our university; research and educational innovation; curriculum development with the potential to elevate outcomes for the citizens of North Carolina; and long- and short-term economic impact.

With a goal of opening a pathway to a college education for all students, the Academy embodies a number of key initiatives that compose the UNC System’s strategic plan.

Individually remarkable, collectively extraordinary? Absolutely!
