A Black Mountain College Experience

Dome building on Sanford Mall tomorrow and Friday
Wednesday, October 18, 2017

This Thursday and Friday kick off the 2018 Black Mountain College Semester. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, a geodesic dome professional will provide two workshops on the campus mall. Everyone’s invited to learn about the design principles of Buckminster Fuller, a noted Black Mountain College luminary who gave the dome its name, and the basics of dome construction. Friday’s workshop – same time, same place – will be dedicated to building the 10-foot domes recognized for being strong, light and efficient structures analogous to nature’s own designs.

This is the first of many workshops, exhibits and lectures developed by the Center for Appalachian Studies, Professor of Creative Writing and North Carolina Poet Laureate Emeritus Joseph Bathanti, and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts to explore BMC’s influence within the Appalachian region. Come to the 'happenings' on the mall and dive into the Black Mountain College experience.
